Case Study: Vickers

Formed in 1973, Vickers Laboratories serves a number of markets, with customers typically comprising major water utilities, educational suppliers, contact lens & pharmaceutical manufacturers and many other manufacturing companies.

The core competencies of the company centre around chemical logistics, and the manufacture of high precision reagents and solutions for mission critical purposes.

Julian Driver, Chief Executive “We had good people skills when we were invited to become involved with the project, but I believed that we would need external help to move on to the levels we have subsequently achieved.”

“It is important that we maintain the high level of skills we now have within the business. The good news is that there is now a two way street as it is not only the management working to improve the business, but the whole company, as everybody now has the methods and skills to do so.”

For the financial year ending 2004, Vickers recorded a profit of £218,000 and a 27% return on capital employed – the best ever.

They also produced a magnificent 36% increase in Productivity (Gross Value Added / Employee).

Utilising Leading Your People To Success Ltd helped implement a reserved hours system – simplifying budgets, increasing peer pressure amongst the production staff, and encouraging teamwork and efficiencies.
